Drink of the Day: Hurricane

Here is the absolute best recipe if you get to the party late & need to play some catch up! Walk into most bars and ask them for their strongest mixed drink & what do they give you? Yup, a Hurricane! White 4+ oz. of good alchohol, it is sure to get you spinnin’ quick! It even has its own glass, the “hurricane glass” of course. As with all mixed drinks the recipe varies from place to place, but check out how its done right. Read on for the recipe…

2 oz. white rum
1 oz. dark rum
1/2 oz. Bacardi 151 (uh-oh!)
1/4 oz. grenadine or passion fruit syrup
1 oz. triple sec
grapefruit & pineapple juices

Mix everything but the juices and pour into a “hurricane glass” 3/4 full of ice. Top off with equal parts grapefruit & pineapple juices!

(This drink can also be done with orange juice)

Drink of the Day: Fourth of July Shot

I am not necessarily saying that this drink is any good… But, it is cool looking & is very patriotic!

In a shot glass (or double shot glass) layer the below liquors in that exact order. The best method to layering you ask? Pour each flavor over an upside down spoon.

1 part Blue Curacao
1 part Grenadine
1 part Vodka

Layer it, salute it, sloose it!

Drink of the Day: Jager Bomb

Uh-oh! Enough said right there… This is a very fun drink to do with a bunch of friends when you feel like getting crazy, of if the night is starting to drag a little bit. The purpose you ask…? To get drunk & hyper, of course.
Some places will mix the ingredients already for you, but don’t let them! Ask for the Jager’ in a shot glass on the side! this is just like a Irish Car Bomb for all of you “connoisuers” out there…. Continue on for how to do it at home.

Pour 1/2 can of Red Bull into a tall glass.
Pour 1 shot of Jagermeister into a shot glass.
Drop shot glass of Jager into glass of Red Bull.
Bottoms up!

Drink of the Day: Mojito

Probably THE summer drink to consume. The Mojito is good in the morning, day, & night. The reason i chose the Mojito today is because I got back from a very relaxing trip to Palm Springs. I was laying back at the pool at the Marriot Shadow Ridge resort drinking mojitos and attempting a summer tan. My experience with the Mojito is quite varied, from disgusting to out of this world.
The beauty of this cocktail are the numerous varieties that can be created with different flavors of rum & even different types of alcohol (champagne, beer, etc.). I am in love with the original concoction though, so I will list how it is done right below. But feel free to give your input of what is your Mojito. My two favorite places to drink Mojitos are @ O-Bar in West Hollywood & The Cheesecake Factory. Continue on for more…Yes, you heard me correctly… I experienced The Cheesecake Factory’s Mojito this weekend in Palm Springs over the weekend & was absolutely blown away by the flavor. The alcohol content is limited, but it makes up for it in delicious mint flavor. It was so incredibly refreshing. Keep in mind that it was 115 degrees outside, which may infuse my review of it with some heatstroke bias.
The O-Bar Mojito is also very well made. They serve it to you in the actual double-sized shaker bottle, which equals 2+ drinks total. They also tend to ask if you want it light or stiff. Guess which on I prefer. For $20, that is a pretty good deal. They have a total of 9 different varieties of Mojito, such as my favorite the Missionary Style (original) & the Texas Mojito made with Corona. You can check out their full selection of Mojitos here. The atmosphere of O-Bar is also great. The O-Bar is just a very relaxed trendy place to get a drink & some great food (fave: fowl strippers). I typically go there between 6PM & 8PM for half off my Mojito & a snack, then get out there to the parties later. Now, on to the making of the Mojito:Ingredients:

4 mint leaves
2 tsp. sugar
1/2 lime
2 oz. white rum
club soda

Recipe:In a tall glass gently crush mint & squeeze lime, add sugar, fill glass with ice. Next, add rum & top with club soda. Garnish with mint sprigs and/or lime slices.
Crush it, sip it, sloose it!

Drink of the Day: Long Island Ice Tea

Looks innocent doesn’t it? It’s a great summer drink & is quite refreshing… but don’t be fooled. When I was first starting my drinking experience I always avoided the L.I.I.T. because I had always thought that it was a girly drink. I mean, ice tea? Boring, especially when there are drinks like the Jager Bomb & the Alabama Slamma. Against my better manly judgment, i tried one, two, three, fuor, fife… oh wow, am i durkn. After a few, you will be feeling it, I guarantee it! Don’t underestimate the power of ~~Lipton~~ ice tea.

Just mix the below ingredients over ice, pour it in my favorite class, the Collins glass & add garnish (lemon or pineapple)if you feel so inclined. The beauty of a Long Island Ice Tea is that it tastes like ice tea! The greatest experience you can have with a Long Island is to use only top-shelf liquors for it. What a difference! Sure, the bar way is fine, but when you has for a Top-Shelf L.I.I.T. you know you have it made!
Remember: Stir it, pound it, sloose it!

My recommended top-shelf liquors are in italics. Also, all liquors should be of the “white” or clear variety.

1 part vodka Grey Goose
1 part tequila Gran Patron Platinum
1 part gin Bombay Sapphire
1 part rum Bacardi Superior
1 part triple sec Grand Mariner
1 1/2 parts sweet & sour mix
Splash of Coke (for color) optional
Ice
Collin’s glass
Garnish (lemon or pineapple) optional

A whole lot of different stuff in there, huh?

Nice & simple today: Seven and Seven
My favorite drink of all. Call me plain, I don’t care. But, oh wow, the beautiful golden liquid in that highball glass. Goes down incredibly smooth with a touch of bite. There’s just something about that Canadien whiskey, eh?

Ingredients:

1 shot Seagram’s 7
6 oz. 7-up
Ice (duh!)
highball glass
Mix it, drink it, sloose it!
